Isla Bonita Moda La Palma Fashion Week is always an amalgamation of creativity and innovation, where talented designers come up with new ways of showing off their work. Such as Rayco Plata @raycoplata, who made the pieces to set off jewellery by designer Sara Luis on the catwalk this April.

Of course, displaying jewellery on the catwalk is already hard especially when the pieces are small. Because they tend to get lost when seen from afar, which is where the role of the photographer is so important to get those all-important close-ups. So the challenge was for Rayco Plata to create clothing that complemented the accompanying accessories, without taking too much attention away from them.

The first way that he did this was to present a collection that was mostly monochrome, in block blacks in asymmetrical and angular cuts that highlighted the accessories. The designer normally works with cut offs or recycled fabrics although lately he’s been using fabric from a shop that closed down. In this collection, eye-catching materials such as leather, mesh and translucent fabrics were used to create the versatile pieces, including tops, bodysuits, swimsuits and lingerie, each one of which can either be worn alone or combined with other items. Featuring sensual and light silhouettes, the collection is designed to empower the wearer and emphasize the curves of the body without losing strength and the feeling of power.

A couple of well know designers have also put pieces in the catwalk without models to showcase accessories – such as Anya Hindmarch and even Dolce & Gabbana when they used drones at Milan fashion week in their AW 2018 collection.
