Colombia Runway Show at Paraiso Miami Beach during Swim Week - Lupe Castro - MsCastroRides

For the third year in a row, 10 leading Colombian swimwear brands came together on July 14, for a must-see runway show at Swim Week on Miami Beach. Made up of the country’s most diverse, unique and sophisticated swim brands, group included Alma Arena, Bahamamama, Palmacea, Smeralda, Mar de Lua, Mola Mola, Puntamar, PQ Swim and Praia. Through the colourful presentation, the brands showed that vibrant prints and well-constructed silhouettes are in! The labels also joined a panel discussion on sustainability before the show, as nearly all have sustainable components, designing and manufacturing ethically. Three stand out brands who are really promoting the sustainable and ethical concept are Bahama Mama, Smeralda Swimwear and Mola Mola.

Bahama Mama is designed for stylish free spirits who live on the more daring side of life. Full of freshness and elegance, the designs are inspired by the vibrancy of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Committed to conscious creation to minimize the brand’s impact on the environment, the swimwear is created from sustainable techno-fabric made of 100% recycled polyester from pre and post-consumer materials, as well as natural fabrics such as cotton and linen and ecological digital printing.

Smeralda Swimwear also uses eco fabric in their designs, with the unique high-end pieces made from 81% recycled thread from fishing nets and bottles recovered from the sea. The collection includes reversible swimsuits that aim to reduce waste, as well as bikini bags made from organic cotton which can be reused.

Finally, Mola Mola celebrates vibrant living, inspired by the Caribbean Sea’s dynamic energy and bright colours. Featuring bold mix-n-match prints, the collection features tropical, ethically-made pieces made of lycra from recycled plastic PET bottles. The label aims to become 100% sustainable, and is constantly rethinking packaging, production methods, and material sourcing.
